Age: 17. "I was born and raised in Chapel Hill."
Events: shot put and discus. This year he plans to add the 100 and 200 sprints.
Personal best, indoors: Shot 55-0 (ranked 21st best in the nation this winter).
PB, Outdoors: Shot 51-9.25; Discus 149.
Goals for 2012:
indoors: Shot 58-0. "I think I have that in me."
Outdoors: Shot 60-0. Discus 190. "Those would be nice marks to try for."
Best sports memory: "The whole track season last year. My teammates, Jon Howes and Clark Cunningham and myself just had a lot of fun all year."
Coaching Influences: His father, Jon Beyle, one of the best baseball hitters ever at Chapel Hill High School, who now coaches track and field at Phillips and assists with sprinters at East Chapel Hill; Jon Evans, who's coached at Culbreth Middle School and assisted at Chapel Hill High School; Jason Reese, throws coach at East Chapel Hill.
Favorite athlete: Trey Hardee, USA Decathlete, NCAA Decathlon record-holder. "I'd like to try the decathlon and see what I can do with that. It's not offered in high school meets, so it'll have to wait for a while."
Role model: "My dad. My dad has coached me since seventh grade. He's taught me a lot, about track and about everything. I've always looked up to my dad. I've tried to model myself on the way he acts. He's nice to everyone; that's just the way he is. I love him."
People should know: "My faith is important to me. I thank God every day for the talents He's given me, and I pray He'll use me for His glory."
