Thinking of submitting a photo for Your Best Shot? Staff photographer Harry Lynch shares tips to help you take better shots:

Get the camera away from eye level - try to catch a different view from below or above to help you see in a new way.

Don't be afraid to get closer to your subject if you can safely; otherwise use a longer focal length lens. When in doubt get closer.

The best photographs are often made in less than ideal weather - rain, fog, snow, wind or storms can help create wonderful images. Just protect your gear from the elements.

If sunlight is your thing, the best sunlight is found just after sunrise and just before sunset. Early and late sunlight are more dramatic and give more saturated colors.

Take note of what is in the background. Move around some if the background threatens to overwhelm or obscure your subject matter.
