Still No. 1, Tigers take on OxfordChapel Hill's undefeated boys basketball team remained at No. 1 in the News & Observer's rankings of the Triangle's top teams, while the CHHS girls moved up three spaces to No. 4.
Tod Morgan's boys team, at 21-0 after Tuesday's 75-49 victory at Northern Vance, still needed a win Friday at Oxford Webb (14-3, 6-1) to clinch the Carolina-6's top playoff spot. The Warriors, surging since the return of UNC signee Isaiah Hicks, broke into the N&O rankings for the first time this season at No. 9 last week.

In wrestling, Orange confirmed its status as the No. 1 team in the Triangle with its big win over Chapel Hill. Orange (14-0 in dual meets,) remains the top team in the N&O rankings, while Chapel Hill dropped out.
Northern Durham (27-5) moved up a notch to No. 7 as the top entry from the PAC-6, while conference champion Jordan (22-7) broke into the rankings at No. 10.
CHHS girls moving upUnlike the N&O's boys ranking, dominated by team from Wake County, the Triangle Top 12 for girls' teams features several teams from Orange and Durham.
Winning its seventh straight last week with a victory over Northern Vance, Chapel Hill (19-2) moved up three spaces to stand No. 4 in the rankings, while Durham Hillside (15-2) was the top team from the PAC-6 , at No. 3 last week, in the
Southern Durham (16-3), which fell to both Hillside and Riverside within the past two weeks, dropped two spots to No. 7.
Carolina Friends School (20-3) was at No. 9, and it was still the lone private school in the N&O rankings.
Northwood (18-3), winner of nine in its last 10 games, moved up a spot to No. 10.
Tuesday at Northern Vance, coach Sherry Norris's Tigers used balanced scoring to dispatch the Vikings, 68-52. Jamella Smith of CHHS hit 3-of-5 tries on 3-pointers for a team-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds. Jessica Wall and Catherine Romaine each had 12 points. Laura Musalem helped CHHS on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Chatham gets 3Ring CycleRegistration is now open for Chatham Habitat for Humanity's Third Annual Chatham 3Ring Cycle, set to begin at 8:30 a.m. May 12 at the Central Carolina Community College campus in Pittsboro.
The bicycle ride features 30, 60, and 100 mile loops on scenic roads throughout rural Chatham County.
The fee is $40 (with $5 surcharge for late registration). Proceeds benefit Chatham Habitat for Humanity. Those who register by May 9 are guaranteed a free event T-shirt.
