Clean-Up-A-Thon

Art Installation Workshop

N.C. State University School of Art & Design retired professor Jan-Ru Wan will lead participants in creating a collective art installation, "Up Close and Personal" with a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Drive. Seniors 55 and older will sew, stitch and screen print re-purposed clothes to create panels of art to be integrated into a permanent display at the center. 968-2070.

Town Treasures Reception

A reception for the fourth group of Town Treasures to have their portraits permanently hung in the Robert and Pearl Seymour Center will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at 2551 Homestead Ave.

Lecture Event

An academic lecture on "The Value of the Original in the Digital Age" will be at 5:30 p.m. in Hyde Hall at UNC-Chapel Hill. Carl Posy from Hebrew University of Jerusalem will speak. philosophy.unc.edu/events/ public-lecture-carl-posy .

Panel Discussion

A panel discussion on writing inspiration called "Where do you get your ideas?" will be at 6 p.m. at the Orange County Main Library. Authors on the panel include: John Claude Bemis, A. J. Mayhew, Ed and Janet Howle, Natania Barron and moderator James Maxey. bit.ly/feb4ideas.

Documentary Screening

A screening of the documentary film, "Battle for Brooklyn" will be at 6:30 p.m. at the FedEx Global Education Center at UNC-Chapel Hill. Michael Galinsky, one of the filmmakers, will attend the screening. Cost is a suggested donation of $10 to benefit stone circles and the filmmakers. 304-5000, stonecircles.org.

Lecture Event

A Carolina Valentine

Family to Family Classes

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold a series of 12 weekly classes called Family to Family from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Road. Computer Class

Farmers Markets

The Eno River Farmers' Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Market House on East Margaret Lane in Hillsborough.

The Hillsborough Farmers' Market is held in the parking lot of the Home Depot on N.C. 86 from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday. 732-8315.

Toastmasters

Free Throw Championship

The Knights of Columbus will hold a free throw contest for boys and girls ages 10-14 at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic School, 920 Carmichael St. Participants must bring proof of age. Art Workshop
