Clean-Up-A-Thon

Clean Jordan Lake is seeking volunteers to participate in the 22nd annual Haw River Assembly's Clean-Up-A-Thon 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 17 beginning at the Robeson Creek boat ramp. Boaters and walkers will be assigned different shoreline sections. Wear rugged clothes and shoes and bring rain gear if needed. 5K For Education

The Chapel-Hill Carrboro Public School Foundation with Fleet Feet Sports Carrboro will hold preparation events for the foundation's 5K for Education on April 28. A six-week training program for employees of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School district will begin March 12. Cost is $10 and includes registration for the 5K. A training will be held Feb. 27 at the Lincoln Center. publicschoolfoundation.org.

Children's Program

A story and craft program for kids in pre-K to third grade will be from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Public Library at University Mall. chapelhillpubliclibrary.org.

Historical Society Program

The Chapel Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly program at 3 p.m. at 523 E. Franklin St. The program will be a lecture by Jerry Cotten called, "Bayward Wootten, North Carolina Camera Artist." 929-1793.

Concert Event

The Chapel Hill Philharmonia and the UNC-Chapel Hill Vocal students present "An Afternoon at the Opera" at 3 p.m. in Hill Hall auditorium at UNC-Chapel Hill. A reception will follow. 962-1039, music.unc.edu.

Writers for Readers Reception

Orange County Literacy Council's fifth annual Writers for Readers Meet the Authors Gala Reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the UNC-Chapel Hill President's House. Ticket are $125. Proceeds will benefit the Orange County Literacy Council. 636-4457, orangeliteracy.org.

Writers for Readers Luncheon

Orange County Literacy Council's fifth annual Writers for Readers Book and Author Luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carolina Inn. Daniel Wallace, author of the bestselling novel, "Big Fish" and former OCLC executive director, will emcee the luncheon. Attendees will hear a student/tutor pair speak and the featured writers will talk about their current work and the importance of promoting literacy. Tickets are $65. 636-4457, orangeliteracy.org

Lecture Series

Breastfeeding Group

Breastfeeding Cafe, an informal drop-in gathering of breastfeeding moms, is held every Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Red Hen, 201 Weaver St., Carrboro.
