Internationally acclaimed opera star Marquita Lister is among the many artists who will perform during the Videmus Festival this week at UNC. The festival celebrates the musical works of women, African-American and other under-represented composers, and many of the events, including Lister’s performance Saturday night at Hill Hall, are free. 919-962-1039, videmus.org.

At No Shame Theatre, playwrights and performing artists can get on stage and do anything, as long as it adheres to three rules: it has to be original, it has to be five minutes or less, and nothing (the law, the audience, the stage) can be broken. Come watch – or participate – at 10 p.m. Saturday at The ArtsCenter, 300-G E. Main St., Carrboro. 9191-929-2787, artscenterlive.org.

The illustrious and influential musician Herbie Hancock will bring his band to Memorial Hall on the UNC campus Thursday night. This is big time. 919-843-3333, carolinaperformingarts.org.
