What will Chapel Hill be like in the year 2020?

Show how you imagine Chapel Hill's future. Where will you live? What will the environment be like? How will people move around?

Children are invited to enter their artwork on questions or themes related to Chapel Hill in the year 2020 in the Chapel Hill 2020 art contest. You can win prizes and have your artwork displayed on the Chapel Hill 2020 website.

The contest is open to children in grades K-12. Those homeschooled between the ages of 5 and 17 are eligible to enter. Entries can be in any two-dimensional medium (painting, drawing, printing, comic book art, collage, photography, video, digital media, etc.). Artwork must be accompanied by a completed entry form.

Submit entries in person or by mail by Friday, April 20, to Chapel Hill Public Library, 201 S. Estes Drive, Chapel Hill, NC, 27514. Video and digital artwork may be submitted on a CD or DVD. Download the contest rules and entry form or visit chapelhill2020.org for more information.

Entries will be reviewed and judged within four separate grade level categories - K-2, grades 3-5, grades 6-9, and 10-12. A top prize will be awarded in each category. Additional prizes may be awarded. Winners will be announced May 1, 2012.

The contest will be judged by Melanie Hartz Levinson, curator at Kidzu children's museum; Melissa Valantine, an art instructor at Smith Middle School; and Melanie Miller, graphic artist for the Town of Chapel Hill.

Questions should be addressed to Jeff York, Town of Chapel Hill Public Arts Coordinator, 919-968-2750 or publicarts@townofchapelhill.org.

The Chapel Hill 2020 Art Contest is sponsored by the Town of Chapel Hill 2020 Comprehensive Plan (www.chapelhill2020.org) with assistance from the Town of Chapel Hill Office of Public & Cultural Arts and the Chapel Hill Public Library.
