•  The Chatham Empty Bowls fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Chatham County Council on Aging Senior Center on N.C. 87 North in Pittsboro. Locally made soup and pottery will be on sale, along with other items. Proceeds will go the CORA food pantry in Pittsboro. Admission is $25 at the door. •  The Second Annual Charles House Tennis Benefit will be held Saturday, May 5, at the Chapel Hill County Club, The Farm and Hollow Rock Racquet and Swim Club. Events include a doubles tournament, fast-serve competition, continental breakfasts at each venue and a gala lunch. Non-players are welcome to join and attend the luncheon and silent auction. •  Volunteers For Youth will host a benefit concert 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at West End Public, 462 W. Franklin St., featuring the Franklin Street All-Stars and Greg Humphreys. Tickets are $25. All proceeds benefit Volunteers for Youth. For tickets and information, see volunteersforyouth.org.

•  The Historic Hillsborough Commission will hold the 12th Annual Spring Garden Party & Auction from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Burwell School Historic Site. Silent and live auctions, raffles, food and drink. All proceeds support the Burwell School’s programming and operations. Tickets are $35. •  Registration is now open for Chatham Habitat for Humanity’s Third Annual Chatham 3RingCycle, set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at 8:30 a.m. at the Central Carolina Community College campus in Pittsboro. The bicycle ride features 30-, 60-, and 100-mile loops. Registration for adults is $40; $45 for walk-on registration. Registration for ages 16-18 is $30; $35 walk-on. Jason Ray Foundation brunch today

The Jason Ray Foundation will host the Ray of Hope Fundraising Brunch and Auction at the Carolina Club Alumni Hall at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, April 29, to benefit patients who have undergone solid-organ transplantation at UNC Hospitals.

In addition, money raised will provide a permanent memorial to Jason Ray, the former UNC Tar Heel mascot who was killed in a hit and run accident at the NCAA Basketball Tournament regionals in 2007.

Anson Dorrance, UNC women’s soccer coach, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Tom Folwell, speaker pro tempore of the N.C. House of Representatives, also will speak.
