CHAPEL HILL - Mark Dorosin and Penny Rich have won seats on the Orange County Board of Commissioners, defeating incumbent Pam Hemminger in the Democratic primary.

The three Democrats were the only candidates in the District 1 race. There is no Republican challenger.

Four seats on the seven-member board are up: two seats in District 1, one seat in District 2 and one at-large seat.

Dorosin raised the most money, $10,364, according to campaign finance reports. Rich raised $4,033 and Hemminger raised $4,570.

Rich is a member of the Chapel Hill Town Council. She’ll cut her term short to join the commissioners, and the council will appoint a replacement.

Dorosin is a former Carrboro alderman and works for the UNC Law School’s Center for Civil Rights. Hemminger has served one term as commissioner and is a former member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board.

Renee Price easily beat incumbent Steve Yuhasz in the District 2 race. She also raised more money than Yuhasz, $5,969 compared to $4,425.

She faces Republican Chris Weaver in the general election in November. Current Chairwoman, Democrat Bernadette Pelissier, will run against Republican Mary Carter for one at-large seat in November.
