•  Lynn Ansley Fordham has been inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology. The induction took place at a formal convocation ceremony during the recent 89th ACR Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership conference April 21-25 in Washington, DC.

Fordham is the chief of the division of Pediatric Radiology at the N.C. Children’s Hospital and an associate professor in the UNC School of Medicine, Department of Radiology. She is a member of the ACR; the American Association for Women in Radiology; the Radiological Society of North America; the American Roentgen Ray Society; the Society for Pediatric Radiology; the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine; the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound; the Society of Chairs of Radiology in Children’s Hospitals; the European Congress of Radiology; and the European Society of Pediatric Radiology. Fordham completed her undergraduate degree in molecular biology at Wellesley College and received her medical degree at the Tufts University School of Medicine.

One of the highest honors the ACR can bestow on a radiologist, radiation oncologist or medical physicist is recognition as a fellow of the American College of Radiology. ACR Fellows demonstrate a history of service to the College, organized radiology, teaching, or research. Approximately 10 percent of ACR members achieve this distinction.

•  The following were presented with awards for outstanding support of public television in North Carolina at UNC-TV’s annual appreciation dinner.

North Carolina Division of Tourism, Film, and Sports Development received the Partner award. This award recognizes an organization that has collaborated with UNC-TV to provide North Carolina programming that makes a difference in the life of the state. The award was presented for the Division’s longtime partnership with UNC-TV on the production of North Carolina Weekend, UNC-TV’s weekly travel series, highlighting the state’s rich natural, historical, and recreational resources.

SAS received the corporate award. This award recognizes outstanding corporate supporters who donate both financially and with volunteer assistance to public television in North Carolina. SAS has helped UNC-TV raise more than $900,000 and has truly been a national model for corporate support of public television.

Fred and Jane Dalldorf of Chapel Hill received the producers circle award. This award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of UNC-TV’s mission providing statewide public television service to all the citizens of North Carolina. They were honored not only for their financial support, but for their commitment to public television and for their wise and thoughtful counsel through the years.

•  Valerie L. Jewells-Summers has been inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology. The induction took place at a formal convocation ceremony during the recent 89th ACR Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership conference April 21-25, 2012, in Washington, DC.

Jewells is an associate professor of radiology at the University of North Carolina. She is a member of the ACR and the American Osteopathic College of Radiology where she served as the program chair in 2010. Jewells received her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

•  The Durham Arts Council congratulates the following student who participated in the 4th District Congressional High School Art Competition. The Congressional High School Art Competition is an annual competition organized by representatives of the Congressional Districts, and is open to paintings, drawings, photographs and prints. Each representative brings a winning entry back to Washington, D.C. to be displayed in the corridor of the U.S. Capital.

Brandon James, a student at Durham's Southern High School received first place. Kristen Hutchinson, Northwood High School in Chatham County received second place. Sonya Zhang, Green Hope High School in Wake County received third and Blair Torres, Cardinal Gibbons High School in Wake County received an honorable mention.
