Hog Day celebration set for downtown Hillsborough
For reasons we cant explain, the State Mammal of North Carolina is not the pig (it is, instead, the much less delicious gray squirrel). Hillsborough will do its best to rectify that oversight this weekend with the 30th annual Hillsborough Hog Day festivities at River Park downtown. The two-day celebration of all things porcine features live music, arts and crafts, childrens games, a vintage car show and, of course, a whole lot of barbecue. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Friday, May 18, when the pig cookers start to work their magic and patrons enjoy music by Country Bob and the Ruckus and the Greg Hawks Band (Friday night patrons are asked to bring a donation of canned or boxed nonperishable foods for Orange Congregations in Mission). Festivities go on all day Saturday, May 19, starting with the barbecue contest and continuing with all sorts of activities, including lots more music.Admission is free.
