BASEBALL FULL: The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department’s Fall Baseball Program – for ages 6-12 – is currently full;however, waiting lists are being generated. To get on a waiting list, please call 919-918-7364.
A. D. CLARK POOL at the Hargraves Community Center, 216 N. Roberson St., is open for the 2012 summer season. The free outdoor swimming pool, operated by the Town of Chapel Hill, is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
CARRBORO JULY 4: The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department is seeking volunteers for its upcoming July 4th Celebration. Volunteers are needed in several areas, and the work will qualify for service learning hours. Areas of service include: Children’s Activities like arts, crafts, games and tattoo booths at the Carrboro Town Commons and Weaver Street Market; the Info Table to help with T-shirt and raffle ticket sales, as well as answer questions from festival-goers; Stage Attendants to help with loading and unloading of equipment; the Recycling/Litter Patrol to keep Carrboro beautiful; and Runners to assist at the main information table and deliver items between information tables and activities. CARRBORO PITCH: The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department will host pitching classes this fall for youth ages 9-12, featuring former CHHS, UNC-Greensboro and Double-A leaguer Pat Currin. He will offer baseball instruction — 3-4 p.m. on Saturday afternoons, Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 — on the fundamentals of pitching, with a focus on developing individual skills and throwing strikes with consistency. Registration will begin May 2 for Carrboro residents and May 3 for others. Space is limited. The fee is $47 per player. VENTURE CREW 39 meets alternate Wednesdays at the University United Methodist Church, located at 150 East Franklin Street, where young women ages 14-20 can meet new friends, explore hobbies, develop skills and can sign up to experience rock climbing, whitewater rafting, camping, skiing and other outdoor activities.
