HILLSBOROUGH - Dwane Brinson has been named Orange County tax administrator.

Brinson will fill the remainder of the unexpired term of Jenkins Crayton who resigned on May 29. Paul Laughton in the Finance and Administrative Services Department will continue to serve as interim tax administrator until Brinson starts work on Aug. 6.

Brinson will be responsible for directing the daily activities and supervising staff of the Orange County Tax Office. The duties of the office include listing, assessing, billing and collections for all taxable property in the County. He will also be responsible for Emergency Management billing activities involving ambulance service and fire inspections.

Brinson has been serving as the tax aAdministrator of Lee County for the past five years. Prior to that, from 2001 to 2007 he was responsible for appraising real estate, including commercial properties, in Onslow County and then in Pitt County.

Brinson’s educational background includes a vachelor of science in Business from Mount Olive College, a master of business administration in Finance from Campbell University and a master of public administration from the UNC-CH School of Government.

Brinson told the county commissioners he was ready to be part of the Orange County community. “As a UNC alum, I am excited to have an opportunity to become a permanent resident in the Orange County community,” he said. “This is an opportunity that has been long awaited.”
