Henry E. Turlington, Jr., died at his home on Thursday, August 2, of pancreatic cancer. He was 67 years old. Henry came to Chapel Hill, when he was in high school, and attended the University of North Carolina. He moved to Chatham County in 1976, living on Bynum Ridge Rd. for many years--where he was affectionately called “the king of Bynum” by his children’s friends--and then in Pittsboro. For most of his life, Henry worked as an antiquarian bookseller. A talented writer and an avid reader, he passed on his love of books, as well as cooking and gardening, to his children.
Henry is survived by his life partner, Denise Larson; his children, Shannon and Richard Turlington; his step-children, Graylyn and Trevyn Larson; his grandchildren, Sean Molloy and Lucinda Turlington; and his siblings, John Turlington, Lynn Gardam and Carol Peters. “How surely are the dead beyond death. Death is what the living carry with them.” The family asks that memorial donations be made to Heads Up! Therapeutic Riding Program, PO Box 190, Pittsboro NC.
