Frederick (Ted) B. Gervais, Colonel, United States Air Force (Retired), loving husband for 68 years to Doris (Dobby), father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a proud and honorable veteran, passed away at the age of 90 at The Pavilion, Croasdaile Village, Durham, North Carolina, with his loving family at his side. Ted was born on February 18, 1922 in Lawton, Oklahoma. As the son of an army officer, he attended various schools throughout the country and was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. He had a distinguished 30-year career in the military as an army officer and air force pilot during which he flew a variety of aircraft including the B-17, B-29, B-47 and T-39. In addition, he held several command and staff positions prior to his retirement in 1973 to Santa Maria, California. In 1993, he and Dobby moved to Chapel Hill, NC, and eventually made their home in Croasdaile Village. Ted was a proud family man and an avid golfer with four holes-in-one to his credit.

He was “Dad” to David and Margaret Gervais, Conover, NC; Rik and Bobbie Gervais, Fearrington Village, NC; Cyndi and Gregg Ebert, Arlington, SD; Bill Gervais, Hillsborough, NC; John Gervais, Gastonia, NC; and “Pa” to 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. His sister, Chic Dorsey, and niece, Kathy Lucas from Red Bank, NJ, also survive him. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jordan Woods Gervais. Dad, you will always be remembered and will forever live in our hearts.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Duke Medical Center, Neuro Intensive Care Unit and the medical staff of Croasdaile Village Pavilion for their professional and loving support. You’re the best!

Memorial Service will be held at Croasdaile Village Few Chapel, 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway Durham, NC 27705 on Wednesday August 8th at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Trust Fund; UNC/Chapel Hill CB#7236 First Floor POB; 170 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7220.
