The Urban Sketchers are a nonprofit group of artist-correspondents who share a passion for creating and sharing drawings of scenes in cities around the world. They live in and travel to cities including London, Barcelona, Lisbon, Singapore, Seoul, New York and San Francisco. They work quickly on the spot, using pen, pencil and watercolor to capture the lively and dynamic character of streetscapes and people in the moment.
The Ackland Musuem Store in downtown Chapel Hill will present the first-ever exhibition bringing together works from Urban Sketchers from around the world. Seeing the World, One Drawing At a Time: Urban Sketchers opens with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16. The show features works by 38 artists from 19 countries, and will remain on display through Oct. 6.
Proceeds from sale of the sketches will go to support Urban Sketchers educational programs and to the Ackland Art Museum.
