Rebecca Maree Rosenfeld, age 20 of Fairfax, Virginia, beloved daughter of Dorothy Mebane and stepdaughter of Andres Ploompuu, died suddenly in Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday July 4, 2012.
Rebecca was born in Danbury, Connecticut on January 28, 1992. A graduate of Chapel Hill High School in 2010, Rebecca entered North Carolina State University (NCSU) as a physics major. She was an active member of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) village, NCSU Scholars Program, and on the Dean’s List in physics and mechanical engineering. In her sophomore year, she worked as an undergraduate researcher at NCSU’s Nanoscale Tribology Lab. During Rebecca’s Chapel Hill High School Band years, she loved performing and helping new members in the Guard and Winter Guard programs. She performed with the Carolina Visual Productions Winter Guard in Raleigh and competed at Winter Guard Internationals (WGI) in 2012. Rebecca was an avid skier, cyclist, rower, and enjoyed bouldering during her trips to the Canadian Rockies where she spent school breaks and summers with her father. Rebecca loved animals, especially her beloved collie Shadow. She had a passion for fashion, design, art and supporting the KIVA organization that empowers entrepreneurs in developing countries. She was a devoted friend to everyone who knew her and was well loved for her exuberance, determination, creativity, intelligence, inclusiveness, and honesty and she had a great passion for life.
Rebecca is survived by her father, Louis Rosenfeld of Calgary, her mother, stepfather, stepbrothers Erik and Janar, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rebecca’s Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Sunday, August 19, 2012, 2:00 pm at Pullen Baptist Memorial Church, 1801 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, NC 27605.
