Super Trooper: Registration for the annual Super Trooper Mud Run in Saxapahaw is full almost. Planners have opened 15 "charity registrations" available until Sept. 13 for a fee of $100. The Super Trooper Mud Run (
www.trooperchallenge.com) is scheduled for Sept. 15. Proceeds will benefit the Eve Carson Scholarship. The Trooper Challenge Mud run is a 5k, mostly off road, course with military style obstacles and mud pits that will be both achievable for the novice and taxing for the elite. Participants must be age 13 and above. There is a Cap of 500 participants. The event will kick off at 8:45 a.m. with the junior Challenge and the main event steps off at 9 a.m. with a corralled wave start of 25-30 participants every few minutes to help avoid crowding at the obstacles.
Cat Lax for girls: The registration deadline for Cats Laxs second annual Lacrosse Fall Ball League and Clinic has been extended to Sept. 14. All the events will take place at East Chapel Hill High School on Sundays (Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7 and 14. Rising 6th- through 12th-graders are encouraged to join in lacrosse instructions, drills and games taught by college players. Cats Lax drew over 70 participants last year with a wide range of skill levels from first-timers to high school varsity starters. The registration fee is $65 ($50 for a second registration from the same family), and the fee includes a lacrosse pinnie jersey. Walk-up registrations will be welcomed. Please contact

Hilltopper Lacrosse: The Carolina Hilltopper 2012 fall lacrosse season gets underway at the end of September with an open tryout for its U-13, U-15, and High School programs. Hilltoppers Lacrosse is dedicated to teaching lacrosse fundamentals and allowing players to develop to their full potential. Two-wheelers: The local autumn cycling and multisport season gets rolling at 8 a.m. on Sept. 15 with the third annual Pedal for Peds Bike Ride (

The Tour dOrange bike tour on Sept. 22, staged by Tarwheels Cycling Club (

Fall at the YMCA: The Chapel Hill / Carrboro YMCA has opened registration for several fall programs:
Youth Soccer opens next weekend, with Saturday practices and games to run from Sept. 15 through Nov. 3 at Homestead Park.
Homeschool Team Time a weekday morning program based on age-group team sports and games is offering registration for fall sessions.
Fall volleyball (October through December for fifth-through-eighth graders) and winter basketball (January through March) for 4-year-olds through eighth graders) are scheduled to begin registration Sept. 17.
All registrations can be processed online or in person at the YMCA at 980 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Chapel Hill Parks & Rec: Sign-up for Chapel Hills fall Parks and Recreation programs begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday for residents of Chapel Hill and Orange County, and 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, for non-residents. Brochures listing the fall Parks and Recreation programs will be available at Parks and Recreation facilities and the Chapel Hill Town Hall.

Youth Basketball Coaching: The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department is currently accepting volunteer coachs applications for the 2012 - 2013 Youth Basketball Program. Coaches must exhibit the ability to organize practices and communicate effectively with players, parents, and Recreation Department staff. Openings exist in the 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 age groups. A coach must also exhibit the ability to teach proper playing skills and fundamentals, proper sportsmanship, and provide an enjoyable atmosphere at practices and games. Carrboro Sports Registration is under way for the Carrboro Recreation and Parks Departments Youth Basketball Program, Soccer C.L.A.S.S. and volleyball instruction. Forms are accepted at the Carrboro Century Center and online through an existing account.
Youth Basketball is for ages 6-15 (as of Aug. 31). The fee is $58 for Orange County residents and $95 for others. Registration forms must be signed by a parent/guardian.
Carrboros soccer C.L.A.S.S. (Children Learning Athletic Sports Skills) is designed to introduce the fundamentals of soccer to kids 4- to 6-years old and their parents. Sessions are held 9-10 a.m. Saturdays from Sept. 8 to Oct. 13. It costs $47 per child. Space is limited.
Volleyball instruction for youth ages 10-13 is designed to teach and practice the fundamentals of bumping, setting, spiking and blocking. The fee is $47 per player. Classes are scheduled for 1-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-3:45 p.m. on Sundays from Sept. 9 through Oct. 14.
