CARRBORO - Police charged a 19-year-old man Monday with rape and burglary.

Alejandro Artemio Chilel Romero, 19, of 416 S. Greensboro St., Apt. B, was taken to the Orange County Jail under a $1 million bond.

A woman in her 30s awoke early Friday morning to find someone in her home, police reported. She was sexually assaulted, the report stated.

Police spokesman Lt. Chris Atack said the woman did not know Romero. Atack said the suspect entered the house through an unlocked door. The woman’s children also were in the home, Atack said.

The woman spotted Romero walking down South Greensboro Street on Sunday afternoon and called police, he said. They arrested Romero at the Wendy’s restaurant, he said.
