Brock Baker of Chapel Hill, posted the fastest time (31:37.65) among the more than 550 runners who took part Saturday morning in the Carrboro 10k.

Laura Mortimer was the fastest female at the Carrboro 10K and Kids Classic on Saturay, finishing in 37:19.49.

Baker, Mortimer win in Le Tour de Carrboro 10K race

Brock Baker of Chapel Hill was the first person across the finish line last Saturday at the McDougle School, winning the Le Tour de Carrboro’s 10K race with his time of 31:37.65. Laura Mortimer was the first female in, with a time of 37:19.49, finishing ninth overall.

Mitch Van Bruggen of Durham finished second overall in 32:30, and Paul Springen of Cary was third in 33:21. Jennifer Woods (37:39) was runnerup among the females overall, and Kristin Sellars of Carrboro third (38:31).

Perennial winner John Hinton, 50, of Chapel Hill topped the Master Males division with his 36:20, while Alicia Parr won the Master Females Division in 41:36.

Bus Express running Late Night

Chapel Hill Transit will provide Tar Heel Express shuttle service for “Late Night with Roy” on Friday, Oct. 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. from the Friday Center park and ride (off Highway 54 East on Friday Center Drive).

The shuttles will provide continuous and fully accessible service, running every 10 to 15 minutes between Friday Center and the Dean E. Smith Center. The shuttles will operate for 45 minutes following the event.

Shuttle rides are $5 for a round-trip or $3 for a one-way trip.

Jaguars and Tigers move up high school soccer date

The soccer matches originally scheduled for next week between Carrboro and Chapel Hill have been moved up to this Thursday at Carrboro High School. The junior varsities will play at 5 p.m., followed b the varsity match at 7 p.m.

Grinberg starts well for UNCG at Wake Forest Invitational

East Chapel Hill alumna Jamie Grinberg, a freshman playing on the UNC Greensboro tennis varsity, had a great start last in the annual Wake Forest Invitational Friday. It was the first event of the season where the entire Spartan lineup competed together.

In doubles play, Grinberg and Amy Ellis won their doubles flight. They sank Navy’s Sam Droop and Dye Dos, 8-5, and then won a close 9-8 (9-7) match against Richmond’s Mariana Arana and Ripley Hartmeyer in the pre-lims, and then beat Navy’s Mikaela Carlson and Tracy Thorsell, 8-4 in the finals round. In singles, Grinberg won 6-3, 6-2 against Rachel Luke from Stetson.
