PITTSBORO - Officials say a Raleigh man who burned to death Sunday night at Jordan Lake killed himself.

Siddarth Andagudi Prabhushankar, 23, of 4700 West Grove Tower, was identified through dental records. An autopsy concluded Prabhushankar died from the fire, and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is closing the investigation as a suicide.

Deputies dispatched to the Bells Church fishing access at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday spoke with several people fishing on the pier who told them they had seen a large flame and heard a scream coming from the upper parking lot, according to the release.

“Several witnesses came up to the upper parking and observed a man on fire,” Chief Deputy Gary Blankenship said. “The witnesses attempted to put the fire out but could not save the subject.”

No vehicle or person was seen leaving the area during the incident.
