PITTSBORO - Deputies charged two Orange County men Tuesday with the murder of a woman found Oct. 10 near Chicken Bridge in northern Chatham County.

Brian Keith Whitfield, 24, and Caleb Shaddie Wyland, 25, both of 3400 Carl Durham Road, Chapel Hill, were charged with first-degree murder.

They are accused of killing Daphne Forster, 38, of 261 Jim Gilliland Road, Siler City, who was reported missing Oct. 11 by her mother. She was last seen at Cruizers Convenience Marketplace in Pittsboro about 10:20 p.m. Oct. 9.

Both men are being held in the Chatham County Jail under no bail and are scheduled to appear Nov. 19 in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro. Additional charges are pending, deputies reported.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested the men around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at their home.

Investigators found the car in which Forster was last seen alive about 4 a.m. Monday at a hotel on Guess Road in Durham, according to a news release. SBI crime scene specialists took the car for processing.

The office has not said how Forster died. Her body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy, but no cause of death has been disclosed.

If you have information that could be related to the homicide investigation, the Sheriff’s Office asks you to call Detective Will Summers at 919-542-2911.
