The win put the 14-0 team into the state semifinals next week against Jacksonville Northside, which eliminated Bunn.

“It was a great win for our guys,” Tudryn said. “To get a defensive stand, a defensive touchdown, just to get a win. That’s a great defense we saw, the best we’ve seen this year. They wanted to win just as badly as we did.

“Now we go to Jacksonville, but shoot I could go to the moon right now. It’s been pretty fun.”

Carrboro trailed 16-13 after the third period. From that point the defense had to make stops and the offense needed to find one more touchdown.

The Jaguars got the final break they needed when Reidsville had a low snap on a punt, allowing Gerald Atwater and James Scott to tackle the Rams’ punter on the Reidsville 33-yard line late in the game.

On the next play, Jags sophomore Trai Sharp broke loose to the 2 and then scored one play after that for the 20-16 lead with 4:15 to play.

Then the defense made another stop, with Malik Carrington and Scott Peretin coming through on third down and then Douglas Parrish with a huge fourth-down sack.

“We’ve got nine seniors, and they remember how they felt when we lost in the third round before,” Tudryn said. “I couldn’t be any prouder of them.”

Sharp, who has more than 2,000 yards, was the workhorse for the Jaguars’ offense. He rushed 25 times for 159 yards.

Sharp also caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Alex McVeigh for Carrboro’s first score. Carrboro led 13-3 at halftime after Carrington knocked a ball loose and fellow Jaguars linebacker Tobias Sales scooped it up and ran 78 yards for a score.
