PITTSBORO - Rescuers recovered the body of a man from Jordan Lake on Sunday after he drowned near a boat ramp off W.H. Jones Road, officials said.
Fire units and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched shortly before 4 p.m. to the New Hope Overlook at the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported that the water temperature of the lake Sunday was 56 degrees Fahrenheit.
The U.S. Search and Rescue Task Force says that water temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees can cause a person to lose consciousness in one to two hours, and the body’s immediate survival reaction is to draw blood to the heart, lungs and brain and away from the arms and legs.
