SPRING SPORTS: Registration opens in early January for local citizens who want to sign up for Carrboro Recreation’s Spring Baseball and Girls Volleyball programs. Registration will begin Wednesday, Jan. 2, for Carrboro residents and Thursday, Jan. 3, for others. Sign up online through an existing registration account or in the office at the Recreation Department, 100 N. Greensboro St. Carrboro. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration forms must be signed by a parent/guardian and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. • Youth Baseball is for participants 6-12 years old. The age cut-off is as of Aug. 31, 2012. Registration costs $58 for Orange County residents, $95 for out-of-county residents.
• The Middle School Baseball League is for ages 13-15 (as of Aug. 31, 2012). The fee is $58 for Orange County residents and $95 for others. School players are encouraged to participate with their school teammates, helping them to stay together beyond the school playing season. Practice and games are played around remaining school game schedules.
• Volleyball is for girls 10-13 years old as of Aug. 31, 2012. The fee is $58 for Orange County residents, $95 for out of county residents.
LITLE RIVER RUNS: Registration is open for the eighth annual Little River Trail Runs. The race will be held Jan. 19 at the beautiful Little River Regional Park on the border between Durham and Orange Counties.
Both the 7K and 10-mile course are comprised of gently rolling single-track trails with beautiful views of the river and natural areas. Both courses will be well marked with aid stations.

The Little River Park offers visitors over 15 miles of single-track trails, comfortable pavilions for picnics and a playground for kids.The park will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25, the Orange County Department of Agriculture, Parks and Recreation has announced. The park will re-open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
The park also will be open on New Year’s Day. Picnic shelters will be available to rent for use during the holidays.
VOLUNTEER COACHING: The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department is currently accepting volunteer coach’s applications for 2013 Youth Baseball (ages 6-15) and Youth Girls Volleyball (ages 10-13). Call 919-918-7376 for more information.
