CHAPEL HILL - Police arrested a Durham man Friday in a New Year’s Day shooting outside the Time Out restaurant on West Franklin Street.
Christopher Lane Thompson, 21, of 5102 Long Leaf Drive, Durham, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and discharging a firearm within the town limits. Thompson turned himself in shortly after 3:00 p.m. and is in the Orange County under $150,000 bail, police reported.
Police also are seeking two other men – Jaylen McNair, 19, and Tracy Rashaud Floyd, 22, who are know to frequent the Durham and Chapel Hill areas – for questioning.
The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. after an argument inside the restaurant moved to the University Square parking lot. A 25-year-old Durham man was shot but had only non-life-threatening injuries, police spokesman Lt. Kevin Gunter said.
Chapel Hill Police Chief Chris Blue thanked the community, UNC Public Safety and police officers Friday for working together to resolve “this potentially lethal case.”
“I also want to thank the owners and managers of Time Out restaurant, who shared surveillance pictures of the suspects with police investigators. These pictures helped lead to this arrest,” he said.
