Anna Katherine Baucom and Samuel Hurley Thorp, both of Chapel Hill, N.C., were united in marriage on December 21, 2012, at six o’clock in the evening at University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. The Reverend William H. Gattis and the Reverend Carl H. King officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Donald Hook Baucom of Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. She is currently employed as a kindergarten teacher with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Mercer Thorp, Jr., of Chapel Hill, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Mercer Thorp of Rocky Mount, N.C. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a master’s degree from the School of Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is currently a student at the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in Raleigh, N.C.

The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a strapless sweetheart mermaid gown of tissue organza and French tulle by Vera Wang, with a chapel-length ivory tulle veil. She carried a handkerchief trimmed in lace from her mother’s wedding veil.

Jennifer Baucom Ayscue, sister of the bride, of Santa Monica, Calif., served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Erin LaMaster Gravatt of Denver, Col.; Whitney Kihlstrom of Chapel Hill; Esther Lindstrom of Nashville, Tenn.; Tara Stifler of Atlanta, Ga.; and Anna Carol Thorp, sister of the groom, of Raleigh. Madeline Jane Paul of Chapel Hill was the Flower Girl.

Nathan Farlow Thorp, twin brother of the groom, of Greenville, N.C., served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Brian Baucom, brother of the bride, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Scott Gravatt of Denver; Miles Parker of Chapel Hill; Mahler Thorp, uncle of the groom, of Rocky Mount; Mercer Thorp, brother of the groom, of Cary, N.C.; and William Thorp, cousin of the groom, of Chapel Hill. Benjamin Beaudoin, cousin of the groom, of Winterville, N.C., was the Ring Bearer.

Music was provided by Timothy Baker, organist; James Ketch, trumpeter; and Aaron Thacker, soloist.

The couple will reside in Raleigh and will enjoy a honeymoon next summer in the Caribbean.
