CARRBORO - The proposed Howard and Lillian Lee Scholars Charter School is holding four parent information meetings this month.
Parents can hear directly from Principal Tamara Thomas about the opportunities available and the application process. Each meeting is expected to last one hour. Thomas will take questions at these meetings.
The first two meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Carrboro Century Center. Two additional meetings will take place at the Extraordinary Ventures Event Center on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 4 and 7 p.m. Children are welcome to attend each meeting, and activities will be provided for them.
Lee Scholars is a tuition-free public charter school scheduled to open in August. It is managed by National Heritage Academies, which operates five public charter schools in North Carolina.
The school, set to be located in Carrboro, was preliminarily approved by the N.C. State Board of Education on Sept. 6. Final approval is expected by March. With the preliminary approval, Lee Scholars can move forward toward opening in the fall.
