Ibarguen honoredFormer Finley golf pro Ed Ibarguen was recently selected as a 2012 Golf Range Association of America Top 50 ‘Growth of the Game’ Teaching Professional. Ibarguen is a PGA Master Professional. He has served as the general manager at the Duke University Golf Club since 1988 at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club.

The national Chairman of the PGA Teaching/Instruction Committee, Ibarguen has won two national PGA awards and seven Carolinas PGA Section Awards.
Rec field hockey starts in CarrboroThe Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor a Girls Field Hockey League for girls in grades 5 through 8. Registration is currently being accepted online at www.carrbororec.org or at the Carrboro Century Center. The fee is $58 for Orange County residents and $95 for others. Burns, Scroggs readying for seasonTwo Chapel Hill High School alums –attacker Stephen Burns and midfielder William Scroggs – will get a head start on their senior season of lacrosse at UNC with a scrimmage at 11 a.m. Saturday on Navy Field against Denver. The Tar Heels scrimmage Loyola on Feb. 2 at Finley and then open their regular season Feb. 8 on Fetzer Field against Air Force.
Burns and Scroggs both were two-time all-American and all-state players at Chapel Hilll. They helped the Tigers win state championships with undefeated teams in 2007 and 2008.
