On January 3, Edith Berson Feffer passed away at Hillhaven Assisted Living Facility in Adelphi, MD. after a short illness. She was 89 years old, just one week shy of her 90th birthday. She received excellent care and died peacefully. She was recently a resident of Carolina Meadows, a retirement community in Chapel Hill, and before that a resident for many years at the Arcadia co-housing community in Carrboro. She was also a summer resident of Greensboro, Vermont for 45 years.
Edith Feffer was born in New York City on January 10, 1923, and grew up in Los Angeles. She married Melvin Feffer in 1946 and gave birth to three sons. For many years she worked as a reading teacher in the New Jersey educational system, principally in Englewood and West Orange. After retirement, she and her husband moved to NC. In 2002, Melvin Feffer passed away.
She is survived by her 3 sons and their wives: Jed (Joan), Andrew (Michelle), and John (Karin). Edith is also survived by 2 step-grandchildren: Tara Mullen and Brian Tessier and their spouses, Chuck and Amy, and 5 step-great grandchildren: Samantha, Stephen and Alex Tessier, and Kayla and Rachel Mullen. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held on March 23rd at 6 pm at the Arcadia co-housing community common house, 134 Circadian Way in Carrboro. A second memorial service will be held at her summer residence in Greensboro, Vermont in June or July.
