Doris Kaneklides of Chapel Hill, North Carolina died in her sleep Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Born in Salisbury North Carolina, February 17, 1938, to George and Lena Kaneklides, Doris was a graduate of Catawba College and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Doris retired from UNC after a career as an instructor and administrator. After retirement, Doris became well-known in the community for the assistance she provided to many while working with the Employment Security Commission and later, for the help she provided assisting senior citizens find employment through the NCBA organization. She was a lifelong supporter of animal welfare organizations, an active member of The United Church of Chapel Hill, and an avid Tar Heel fan.Doris is survived by her dearest longtime friend, Ad Nielsen; Ad’s husband Mark;, their two dogs, CJ and Bailey; her nephew Norman Kaneklides; her nieces Toni Grove and Sandra Sample; and great nieces and nephews Billy, Nicky, John, Joy, and Mary Beth ; and by her loving and supporting friends of the Friday Night Dinner Group.A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 2:30 on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at The United Church of Chapel Hill.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the music program at The United Church of Chapel Hill or to any animal rights organization.
