CARRBORO - Drivers who are in a hurry may want to steer clear of downtown Carrboro during business hours for about a month, starting Monday.
Emergency crews also will be diverted, since the work also is expected to affect traffic on Rosemary Street and Merritt Mill Road.
Construction crews will start building the parking deck behind the Hampton Inn under construction at 300 East Main Street, the shopping center that houses the ArtsCenter and Cat’s Cradle. Tractor-trailers will truck in 13-foot-wide, precast concrete pieces during the parking deck construction.
The town is expecting more than 400 deliveries over the next month in 45-minute intervals from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, Carrboro Fire Chief Travis Crabtree told town officials in an email. A crane for moving the pieces will arrive today
“This will effectively block or slow down traffic between the 300 & 400 block of East Main Street. Each piece of concrete will be set as it arrives like a huge jigsaw puzzle,” Crabtree wrote in the email.
