Orange Senior Games: Orange County’s 2013 Senior Games and affiliated Silver Arts Events for ages 55 and up will take place from March 23 through May 15. Final registration ends March 8. Registration forms are available at the Orange County senior centers and recreation facilities throughout Orange County and the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Community Bowling League: The St. Paul AME Community Bowling League is forming teams for its 2013 spring-summer season. The CBL comprises members from Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Burlington and meets at 5 p.m. every Sunday at the Durham AMF Bowling Lanes, located at 4508 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard. Dixie Rock: The oldest, consecutively held indoor climbing competition in the United States, the 24th annual Dixie Rock will be held on April 19-20 at the Chapel Hill Community Center, located at 120 S. Estes Drive. Registration is open through April 20. Climbers who register by March 21 get a free Dixie Rock T-shirt, swag bag, and entry for a special prize drawing. The registration fee is $35 for Orange County residents and $42 for non-residents. Registration is available at the Chapel Hill Community Center, Aquatics Center, Parks and Recreation Department or online via Chapel Hill’s program registration website: townofchapelhill.org . Cardinals Lacrosse: North Chatham Cardinals Youth Lacrosse has opened registration for its 2013 Spring Boys Lacrosse program for grades K-2, 3-4, 5-6 and middle school. All games will be played under the direction of NCHSAA-certified officials. Protective gear and a stick are required. For players lacking some equipment, season rentals are available. SOOC Track & Softball: Special Olympics Orange County is ready to accept registration for athletes and team volunteers in the SOOC softball and track spring seasons. All interested athletes and coaches should respond by March 8 by emailing SOOC coordinator Colleen Lanigan at clanigan@townofchapelhill.org. She will place athletes on a team roster or send a separate registration form if needed.

Track will begin on March 19 and run 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday night through May 28 at UNC’s Belk Track. Athletes should expect a rigorous one-hour workout. Softball will begin on March 24 and run through May 19. Afternoon practices will be held at Cedar Falls Park. The SONC Summer Games for all spring sports will be May 31- June 2 in Raleigh. A mandatory softball qualifier will be held April 20 in Chapel Hill. A mandatory track qualifier will be held April 27 in Kernersville.

Audubon Bird Walk: The local Audubon Society will host a Bird Walk that sets out at 7:30 a.m. March 23 from the Mardi Gras Bowling Alley parking lot. Anyone planning to attend should check in advance with Tom Driscoll at spttdrdshnk@yahoo.com. For more information, check newhopeaudubon.org.

Guardians 5K: The Chapel Hill Police Department will host the inaugural Guardians of the Hill 5K on May 4, at 9 a.m. in Southern Community Park in Southern Village. Proceeds from the untimed event will benefit Special Olympics of North Carolina. Early bird registration for the event is $20 per individual and $30 per family.
