Richel Margo Serody

Richel Margo Serody, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away July 24 2013. Richel Serody was born in Philadelphia PA as the oldest daughter of Frances Lichtenstein and Herman Gross. She graduated from Atlantic City High School and then attended Temple University. She married her husband, Gerry Serody, in 1957 and celebrated her 55th anniversary of marriage to him in 2012. Richel worked for 32 years for the administrative section of the Fairfax County School system outside of Washington D.C. Richel raised her three children in Springfield Virginia. She retired in 2000 from the school system and moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2005 where she lived for her last eight years. During her life Richel was very active as a member of her synagogue, Agudas Achim, in Alexandria Virginia. After moving to Chapel Hill, Richel greatly enjoyed book clubs, card games, and the company of a dear group of friends who lived in her neighborhood.

Richel is survived by the love of her life her husband Gerry Serody, her three children Jonathan, Arthur and Robin Serody, her daughters-in-law, Anne and Shannon Serody and her half-siblings Jeffrey Riegel and Bonny Kidd. Additionally she had five grandchildren Christopher, David, Katie, Megan and Jessica Serody that she adored.

The family would like to greatly thank all of the staff of the North Carolina Cancer Hospital and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center for their wonderful care of Richel over the past two years.
