    • Orange County Animal Services and Kidzu Children’s Museum provide activities for kids in August. Visitors to Kidzu Children’s Museum will be able to make animal-themed art every Saturday of August to be displayed at the Orange County Animal Services Center in September.

    • Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro will hold the Healin’ With A Feelin’: A Night of Burnin’ Love benefit for N.C. Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Health Care at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. There will be a live auction and music. For details, call 919-621-7260 or go to jayceeburncenterevent.com.

    • Dining Wisely will hold the Taste of Haiti dinner to benefit the New Vision Children’s Home in Haiti on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Rigmor House, 5501 Highway 54 West, Chapel Hill.     • The Swim for Smiles Foundation will host the Swim for Smiles Youth Triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Briar Chapel neighborhood in Chapel Hill. Proceeds will benefit the N.C.     • Chapel Hill High School will host its second annual Tiger CHill carnival on Saturday, Sept. 21. The school’s clubs, bands, sports teams and student government will provide food, games and activities for families. The event will raise funds for the school’s clubs, sports and arts.

The Durham Arts Council opened applications for the 2014 Emerging Artists Grants Program. Grants of up to $1,500 will be awarded based on applicants’ quality of work, accomplishment, commitment, feasibility of the project and impact on applicants’ careers. Applications are open to Chatham and Orange County residents and due at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris St.
