    •  Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools seek volunteers to read with students, teach students who are learning English, teach writing skills and tutor groups. bit.ly/CHCCSvolunteer.

    • The Galloway Ridge Retirement Community will host its first Galloway Ridge 5K walk and run to benefit Alzheimer’s N.C. at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3000 Galloway Ridge, Pittsboro.     • Panciuto Restaurant will host the Farm to Fork Benefit Dinner, a Karen Burmese dinner cooked by farmers from the Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 110 S. Churton St., Hillsborough. The dinner costs $90 per person. Proceeds will benefit aspiring refugee farmers from Burma. Reservations are required. 919-732-6261.

    • The Efland Ruritan Club Rodeo will start at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Efland Ruritan Club, 3106 Highway 70 West, Efland. Tickets can be purchased with cash on the days of the rodeo; they cost $12 for adults, $11 with a military ID and $6 for military members in uniform and kids 12 and younger.     • The Royal Ball, hosted by The Greater Chapel Hill Association of Realtors, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Governors Club, 11000 Club Drive, Chapel Hill. The ball will benefit the Compass Center for Women and Families. The Royal Ball will include cocktails, dinner, an auction and live music by The Shakedown Band. Tickets are $100 per person, paid by a check to the Greater Chapel Hill Association of Realtors mailed to the GCHAR office, 104 S.     • A Dance Concert for Shelter Animals will be held to raise awareness of euthenasia of shelter animals at 7 p.m., with music starting 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4, at Haw River Ballroom, 1711 Saxapahaw Bethlehem Church Road, Saxapahaw.

    • During the Beauty for a Cure fundraiser, students of the Aveda Institute Chapel Hill will provide free makeup applications, neck and shoulder massages, haircuts and more during Beauty for a Cure from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 200 W. Franklin St. A $10 donation is requested with each service to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. 919-960-4769, ext. 3.

    • OMEGA Championship Wrestling will host a live wrestling event to benefit Margaret B. Pollard Middle School at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at 185 Granite Mill Blvd., Chapel Hill.

    • Chatham Animal Rescue & Education will provide free spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs until Nov. 30. chathamanimalrescue.org.

Project Connect will connect people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with resources including housing, employment, health, legal and social services from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Hargraves Community Center, 216 N. Roberson St., Chapel Hill.
