Barbara K. Lacey

Barbara Elizabeth Koch Lacey, 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Hospice McGraw Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and daughter.

Barbara was born in Wallingford, CT on November 18, 1917, to Alexander and Mary B. Koch. She had two brothers and one sister.

She attended Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, CT, and graduated from Stone Business College also in Wallingford, CT.

In August of 1940 she married the love of her life, John Edward Lacey. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2003.

During her lifetime Barbara was an executive secretary to the Assistant Dean at the University of Maryland and then was an executive secretary for the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC. She remained there until she retired.

She was of the Catholic faith and attended services at churches in CT, MD, NC, and FL.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John Lacey, her parents, Alexander and Mary Koch, her sister, Mrs. Marion deLong, her brothers, Dr. Stephen Koch, Al Koch, a niece, Susan K. Reilly, and two sister-in-laws, Florence Zottoli and Mae Nolan.

She is survived by her nephews, Michael S Koch of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, (Beverly), William deLong of Clarksville, TN, and Chuck Nolan of MA, and her nieces, Alicen Koch Hurst of New Smyrna Beach, FL (Carlos), Karen Koch of Port Orange, FL, Eileen Hernandez of Bangor, ME, Barbara Schmitt and Mary Wallace of MA.

A private service for family and guest will be held on Oct 8 in Jacksonville Beach, FL. Barbara’s ashes will be scattered in Emerald Isle, NC at a later date.

The immediate family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Simone Bryan, Fontaine Sullivan, Gloria Hansen, Tammy Hindle, Larissa Sarkisyan, and Nathan Bunch, R.N. who helped and cared for Barbara as a loving friend.
