Ironing Board Sam is a Piedmont original, like current guitarist Cool John Ferguson or past legends like Josh White or the hobo troubadour Peg Leg Sam.

He plays original and classic blues music, and plays it often around various Triangle venues. Check out his “Funky Bell Bottoms” on YouTube, and play it loudly. He’s a bit of Little Richard and a bit Ray Charles; but he’s got his own edge.

Born in 1939 in Rock Hill, S.C., this guy has seen a lot. He was billed in New Orleans as the Eighth Wonder of the World and has been a player on various music scenes throughout the years.

His association with the Music Maker Relief Foundation coincided with his return to the Piedmont, where he continues to play a few times a month.

When: Saturday night.

Where: Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse, 5410 N.C. Highway 55, Durham.

Tickets: $10.
