Orange at Southern Durham

The Big-8 has proven repeatedly this season that it is the most competitive conference in North Carolina. This game features a classic match-up of the league’s best defense (Orange) versus the league’s best offense (Southern), as well as two of the state’s best quarterbacks – Orange’s Garrett Cloer and Southern’s Kendall Hinton. Undefeated Orange is ranked No. 7 in the state, and Southern deserves to be ranked; its only losses have been to 4A powers from Hillside and undefeated Scotland County.

Cedar Ridge at Chapel Hill

The Tigers have played extremely well for three weeks in a row, only to see victory slip away literally in the last seconds. Red Wolves quarterback Peyton Pappas is talented, but Chapel Hill’s defense is outstanding.

Northwood at Cardinal Gibbons

In any other conference, these two teams likely would be playing for the championship Friday. As it is, one will end in fourth place in the Big-8. Like the Orange-Southern match-up, this pits two of the state’s top QBs against each other – Northwood’s Ti Pinnix and Shawn Stankavage of Gibbons. Go to the concession stand and you’ll miss a touchdown.

Reidsville at Carrboro

Carrboro is in a tie for fourth place in the Mid-State Conference and needs a win to stay in the playoff picture.

East Chapel Hill at Jordan

East is looking to finish on an up note. A third win this year would match the Wildcats’ second-best finish of the past 10 years.

“We have one game left, and that’s all that matters. We don’t talk about the refs; we don’t about injuries, or anything else. What we talk about with the seniors is winning the last game – ending the season the right way and getting the underclassmen off to a good start for next season.”
