    • The Glitz-Glamour-Gatsby Gala to benefit volunteer programs for Orange County residents will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Road, Chapel Hill. Tickets cost $40 per person or $75 per couple at the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill or the Central Orange Senior Center in Hillsborough. Proceeds will benefit the programs of the Orange County RSVP 55+ Volunteer Advisory Council.

    • The Southern Village 5K and Family Fun Run, sponsored by the Chapel Hill Service League, will begin with the 5K (3-mile) run at 10 a.m. and the Family Fun Run at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Southern Village in Chapel Hill.     •  Volunteers for Youth will hold a silent auction during the Larry Fedora Live radio show from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at The Top of the Hill Brewery & Restaurant, 100 E.     • The eighth annual Tails at Twilight Gala fundraiser of the Animal Protection Society of Durham will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Washington Duke Inn, 301 Cameron Blvd., Durham. tailsattwilight.org.

Churches participating in Operation Christmas Child will collect shoe boxes filled with toys, school supplies and encouraging notes for children around the world from Monday, Nov. 18, to Monday, Nov. 25.
