Soccer: Carrboro bows out of playoffs

November 15, 2013

For the second year in a row, Carrboro had to make the five-hour drive to Kill Devil Hills to face First Flight in a soccer playoff game.

Unlike last year, when the Jaguars knocked off the Nighthawks 1-0 in a third-round game, Carrboro fell 3-1 Tuesday night to First Flight in the 2013 NCHSAA East region final

Undefeated First Flight jumped on the road-weary Jaguars quickly, taking a 2-0 lead by halftime. Luke Hickey scored off an assist from Walker Harrison in the second half, but the Nighthawks added an insurance goal to improve to 23-0-0.

Carrboro finished its year at 17-6-2, having gone 10-0-0 in winning the Mid-State Conference title.

First Flight, seeded No. 1 in the East, advanced to the 2A championship game to face Salisbury (26-1-1), the No. 1 team out of the West.
