Predawn fire hits Orange County home

From staff reportsNovember 18, 2013

— Firefighters from four companies fought an early morning blaze Monday in a home in Orange County outside Carborro.

The fire at 1116 Old Sawmill Road, off Bethel-Hickory Grove Church Road outside Carrboro, was reported at 4:36 a.m.

Units from Orange grove, White cross, Carrboro and New Hope fire departments went to the scene with pumpers and tankers.

An Orange County sheriff’s deputy who was first on the scene reported the building was fully involved in flames, authorities said.

There were no reports of injuries, but firefighters called for the American Red Cross to help some people who had been made homeless.

It was unclear how many people were displaced.

Orange County tax records list the address as having a small home built in 1954.
