    • Chatham Animal Rescue & Education will provide free spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs until Nov. 30. Details: chathamanimalrescue.org.

    • Orange County Animal Services will collect donations for its Canned Pet Food Drive until Dec. 21. Donate four or more cans for a voucher for Pictures with Santa on Dec. 21.

    • The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive will collect donated books for local children until the end of December at The Streets at Southpoint, 8030 Renaissance Parkway, Suite 855, Durham. dpfc.net.

    • Orange County Animal Services reduced adoption fees until Jan. 11 for cats to $50 and dogs to $60 for Home for the Holidays to help pets find homes this season. orangecountync.gov/animalservices/adoption.asp.

    • The Sugar Plum Fairy Tea to raise money for the Triangle Youth Ballet is at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, in the Old Well Ball Room at Carolina Inn, 211 Pittsboro St., Chapel Hill. Tickets cost $20. triangleyouthballet.org.

    • The Archbishops of Blount Street, The Stars Explode and Rob Nance will play at the Cat’s Cradle at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at 300 E. Main St., Carrboro. The show will raise money for Roger Johnson, who is dealing with cancer without insurance. The suggested donation is $10. 919-260-0611, catscradle.com.

Durham’s Fourth Annual Holiday Fun Fest seeks volunteers for the event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Durham Central Park, 502 Foster St. There will be activities for kids and families including a campfire, train rides, sledding and Santa.
