Suspect sought in Chapel Hill library theft

Police seek the suspect in a theft from a purse Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the Chapel Hill Public Library.

— Police are asking the public for help identifying the suspect in a Nov. 26 theft at the Chapel Hill Public Library.

The suspect was identified from security footage as a black male wearing a black jacket and black pants, a toboggan and tennis shoes. He is accused of taking a woman’s purse into the men’s room, where police said he removed cash before leaving the purse in the trash.

Anyone with information about the theft or the suspect should contact Investigator Bolden with the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2870 or CrimeStoppers at 919-942-7515.

Calls to CrimeStoppers are anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Online tips can be submitted to CrimeStoppers at www.crimestoppers-chcunc.org.
