Members of the Special Olympics of Orange County basketball teams will take part in the ‘Special Knight’ Sunday at St. Thomas More School.


Essey-Neville take eighth in four-ball golf

The Chapel Hill team of Henry Essey and Gus Neville recorded another top-10 finish in a Carolina Golf Association event when they finished eighth in the Super Senior Four-Ball One-Day Tournament of Champions.

Playing Nov. 19 at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, Essey and Neville combined to shoot a 6-under-par 67-71–138.

Jim Pridgen and Larry Boswell of Jamestown finished at 11-under 133 to win by one stroke over three teams tied for second place.

The Tournament of Champions was open to any Super Senior division low gross or low net winner from the 2013 senior four-ball one-day series.

St. Thomas More will host a 'Special Knight'

St. Thomas More School and the local Knights of Columbus will host a "Special Knight" of basketball, 4-6 p.m. on Dec. 8, to benefit Special Olympics.

The St. Thomas More JV and varsity basketball teams, as well as basketball players from the Special Olympics of Orange County teams, will take part in the evening's program.

The event will include exhibition games between SONC teams and intra-squad games by the St. Thomas More teams.

There also will be a free-throw shooting contest plus a raffle and door prizes.

A donation of $2 per person, or $5 for a family, is requested. All proceeds will go to the Knights of Columbus LAMB campaign, which supports agencies serving those with intellectual challenges.
