The Orange County Animal Services Department has lowered adoption fees for pets with Home for the Holidays until Saturday, Jan. 11. Dogs and puppies’ fees are $60 and cats and kittens’ fees are $50.


‘Trimming Through Time’

Preservation Chapel Hill’s annual exhibition on the history of tree decoration in the United States will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday, Dec. 17, to Friday, Dec. 20, at the Horace Williams House, 610 E. Rosemary St. Anna Offerdahl, a UNC student, curated this exhibition during her fall internship with Preservation Chapel Hill.

Pet food drive

The Orange County Animal Services Department will collect donations of canned pet food until Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Animal Services Center, 1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill.

Gift wrap station

The Orange County Public Library hosts a gift-wrapping station at 137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough.

‘Not-A-Holiday’ Party

The “Not-A-Holiday” Party for teens will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Orange County Public Library, 137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough. Teens will fold origami, roll sushi and sing karaoke.

‘A Christmas Carol’

Allan Gurganus and Michael Malone will perform “A Christmas Carol” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 21, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 210 St. Mary’s Road, Hillsborough. Tickets cost $15 at the Burwell School Historic Site, the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, the Hillsborough Wine Company, Purple Crow Bookstore and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Proceeds benefit the Burwell School Historic Site and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. 919-732-7451.

‘The Nutcracker’ on ice

Local skaters will perform “The Nutcracker” on ice at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, and noon Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Orange County Sportsplex, 101 Meadowlands Drive. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $7 for kids and seniors. 919-644-0339,

Santa will visit the Orange County Sportsplex from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at 101 Meadowlands Drive. 919-644-0339,

Christmas Eve worship services at University Presbyterian Church

University Presbyterian Church invites the community to Christmas Eve worship services at 4, 7 and 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 209 E. Franklin St., Chapel Hill. There will be bell-ringing at the worship service for families at 4, a traditional service with music by the Youth Choir at 7 and a candlelight and communion service with Chancel Choir music at 11.
