WAKA winter sports
WAKA is launching its winter indoor sports in January 2014, and registration for both kickball and bowling is already open.
WAKA, the World Adult Kickball Association, will organize indoor kickball games at Netsports in Morrisville starting Jan. 11. WAKA bowling is planned to start Jan. 12 at the AMF Lanes in Durham.

Brandy Burns will serve as president of the Carolina Godiva Track Club ( www.carolinagodiva.org) in 2014, taking a ceremonial baton from 2013 president Doug Hensel at the club's annual pizza party on Dec. 10. Next year will mark Godiva's 39th season since its founding in 1975.
CHHS Alumni Run
The 9th Annual Chapel Hill High School Cross-Country Alumni Run has been planned for 1 p.m., Dec. 22, at CHHS.
All former cross-country runners, family and friends are invited to run or walk the 5k course. The event also includes a Munchkin Ramble for kids. Food and beverages, plus a raffle and prizes will follow the run.
Participants should meet at the CHHS Culton-Peerman Stadium by the track. Runners are encouraged to wear their favorite CHHS T-shirt from past years.
Run registration is $10 for adults and $5 for children. T-shirts are available ($15 for adults and $10 for children). All proceeds benefit the CHHS cross-country teams.

The Audubon Society will conduct its annual Christmas Bird Counts for Chapel Hill and Jordan Lake on Dec. 22, and Jan. 5, respectively. If you are interested in participating in a Christmas bird count, then please contact Tom Driscoll at firstname.lastname@example.org. Bird counters of all skill levels are welcome.
Little River Runs
Registration is open for the ninth annual Little River Runs on Jan. 18 10-mile and 7-kilometer trail runs on the wooded, single-track trails at Little River Regional Park in northeastern Orange County. Organized by the TrailHeads, a volunteer group of trail running enthusiasts, the race generates funds for the Little River Regional Park. For more information, see www.trailheads.org.
