Orange deputies arrest suspect in West Rosemary Street shooting

From staff reportsJanuary 24, 2014

— Orange County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Monday wanted in connection with a shooting Friday on West Rosemary Street.

Dennis Junious Clark, 23, is charged with attempted first-degree murder. He is being held in the Orange County Jail under a $500,000 bail, sheriff’s officials said.

Clark is accused of shooting another man multiple times around 6:30 p.m. Friday in a downtown parking lot beside Tate Realty and Construction Co. and Legacy Cuts hair salon, 342 W. Rosemary St.

The male victim, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill police spokesman Lt. Kevin Gunter said. The man is not a UNC student, Gunter said.

“At this point, I’m not sure whether the victim’s injuries are life-threatening or not,” he said late Friday.

An arrest warrant was issued Saturday afternoon for Clark, who reportedly fled in a white sedan, police reported.

Police investigators worked into the night Friday collecting evidence, including several items near a black Honda Accord parked in front of the salon. Police later towed the car.

The investigation is continuing, Gunter said.
