Mildred Bradford Thiele, age 96, died peacefully January 15, 2014 at Carol Woods Health Center.
Mildred was born in Walnut, Mississippi, daughter of Blythe T. Bradford Sr. and Ellen Davis Bradford.
A graduate of the Baptist School of Nursing, Memphis, Tennessee in 1938, she went on to earn her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Washington.
Her Nursing career began as a Public Health Nurse in North Mississippi. She served her country as a Captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during the Korean War. She continued with the Veteran's Administration for 24 years as Chief Nurse at various postings around the United States.
She married Dr. Walter H. Thiele in Lake City, Florida on April 15, 1968.
She is a long time member of the Chapel of The Cross Episcopal Church, Chapel Hill.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Walter H. Thiele, two brothers, and two sisters.
Mildred was a second mom to, and much loved by 8 nieces and nephews, Barbara Specter, Blythe Bradford, Bethany Bradford, James A. Bradford, Cheryl Billingsley, James D. Bradford, Sandra Hammac, and Patricia Brandon-Garst, 10 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Carol Woods in Chapel Hill, NC on Saturday, January 25, at 4:00 PM.
