Buffalo wing it in winter cold

Raleigh News & ObserverJanuary 26, 2014

Bison, or American buffalo, look up after an overnight dusting at Jeff and Linda Peloquin’s Vista Wood Bison Ranch in Hillsborough Wednesday.

The cold weather probably barely registered with the Great Plains animals, adapted to withstand sub-zero temperatures.

The Peloquins, members of the Eastern Bison Association, expect five or six calves this spring from their 15-member herd.

“My intent was to raise healthy food,” says Jeff, “and the buffalo are probably the healthiest meat you can buy.”
